This is my final double page spread for my music magazine. It includes the main image of James and Rob, their bands logo, which is the panda picture, the title of the band in grey and the chosen font 'Friends And Allies', the sub heading which says 'It can only go up from here' which is a quote from the interview and lastly, the text which is the interview, which was in yellow and orange.

This is my final contents page and it includes 3 images, one of James and Rob, one of my other model, Vicky, and a picture of James' guitar. There is also a title saying 'Contents' in the same font as the title font of the magazine and also the text with the articles for the magazine.

Final Front Cover

This is my final front cover for my music magazine. My models are James Shufflebotham and Rob Hughes. The front cover contains, the main image, headline, title of magazine, voucher, barcode, image of band logo, date, price, issue and the sub-headings.

Band Interview

I’m about to interview the band that is taking the music scene by storm. ‘Friends and Allies’ are the new rock/blues band that is on the tip of everyone’s tongues.

As they walk into the room, you can really tell how determined they are to succeed as artists. James and Rob are the best of friends and you can certainly tell. Laughing and joking and pinching all the food, really shows how fun they can be and how their social life is becoming hectic after their rise to fame.

So you two, the most important question, when’s the new album out?

*Laughs* don’t worry, it’s out very soon, and we hope you all love it. Yeah, it’s out on the 7^th January.

You’ve achieved so much in this past year, what do you hope to happen for 2012?

Carry on as we’re doing. For two ordinary lads, this is a big shock. We’re just grateful for the opportunities we’ve had so far, and anything else that may happen will be amazing. We’re so lucky.

A little birdie told us that you’re going to be supporting ‘Muse’ at their next gig in Manchester. Is this true?

*Look at each other with a beaming smile* Yeah this is true, we’re so so excited. When we found out ‘Muse’ wanted to gig with us, it was like a dream come true. They’re our idols and doing this gig will hopefully bring more popularity for us too.

We’re curious as to how the band started. How did ‘Friends and Allies’ come about?

We both had a passion for music from a young age. I met James in year 10 when we started talking about music we liked. We realised we were into the same sort of music, and I knew he was one of the best in our school as a guitarist and he seemed to like my piano playing. *Laughs*

Then we joined with two other friends, a drummer and a bass player and it went from there. We were publicised on Facebook and we did a few charity events. Eventually, we split off into separate directions, but me and Rob knew that this was our dreams.

Which is your favourite song off your new album ‘Friends and Allies’?

Oh, that’s a tough one! *Thinking* There’s quite a few for me; one of them has got to be ‘Being loved by you’. I wrote it initially for my girlfriend and it just stuck. It’s great, really emotional, but a song everyone can have a sing song too.

This is the construction of my front cover of my music magazine. It shows the layout, and where all the text, images and titles are going to go.

Introduce Your Band Or Artist

The band i am going to use are going to be 'Friends and Allies.' They are a local band made up of James Shufflebotham and Rob Hughes. They are pupils at Biddulph High School and are close friends. The band has been together since July and are determined to do well in the music business. They hope to start gigging in bigger places, and already have support from the school. James plays guitar and Rob plays piano and they have already made up 5 of their own songs and have covered many other songs. The music they love to play the most is rock and blues.

Chosen Font, Colours And Text Font

This is chosen title name and font for my music magazine front cover. This is bold and stands out. It's unique and has the element of the volume bar with it. I may change the colour of it later on, but for now this is what it will look like.


My chosen colour is on my Colour Scheme's Powerpoint presentation. I have chosen the black, white and orange colour scheme as the three colours work well together. Also, they go well with my band and genre of my magazine.

I have chosen the font ‘Comic Sans MS’ which is what this font is. It is easy to read; it’s a bit different from a lot of other boring fonts and will look good on my magazine. It’ll look good in any colour and can be placed anywhere on the magazine and still look effective.

These three things will make sure that my music magazine is suitable to the genre and it'll be more interesting this way.

Text Ideas

For the text on the inside of the magazine i have got to choose a font that will look good in my music magazine and one that relates to my genre and band.

Here is a list a few fonts i am considering:

This font.... is quite nice, this font is bold and if in a different colour will look good.

This font.... is a good one. It is easy to read and would suit a magazine well. This is my favourite one.

This font.... is an ok font. It's quite boring and isn't very interesting.

This font.... is also quite nice, but it's hard to read and there is a use of capitals when they are not needed.

This font....is a nice fonr bur is hard to read and doesn't fir in with the genre of my magazine and band.

I am going to use the second font as it's easy to read, a nice font to have as the text inside and would look good in different colours.

I have anaylsed existing front covers, contents pages and double page spreads from music magazines. I have stated what i like about them and what i don't like about them. I've also said what is on the magazines that make it unique.

Masthead Ideas

For my music magazine i need to think of some title names for my magazine that i would consider using. I have come up with some that i will list::

Strings
Tempo
Solo
Volume

My favourite so far is 'Volume' and i am going to use this as my title name.

Genre and target audience

There are a few genres i would consider using for my music magazine.
I am considering:
Pop
R&B
Soul

When deciding on my genre, i will need to think about what colours are associated with this genre and what fonts, and then i will decide whether or not this will suit my music magazine.
I also have another option. I can use an existing local band, who's genre is rock/blues.

I think i am going to use the existing band as it will be easier to make the magazine as i could do an interview easily, they already have band information and it can make the magazine more believable.

Music Magazine

I am now starting my Media Coursework. I have got to analyse and make my own music magazine. This is worth 50% of my AS mark. The genre of my magazine will be decided later, but my target audience is going to people who like the type of music that i choose and they will probably be teenagers to young adults. I may be using an existing local band, so i will use their genre of music, which is rock/blues.

This is going to be my proper contents page. The background colour is now a lighter gray, and this carries on from my front cover. It adds a bit of interest and light to the background.

This is my final contents page, but i have changed the white background to a dark gray. I think this is ok, as it carries on from my front cover, but it is a little too dark and looks depressing.

This is my final contents page. As you can see it carries on from my front cover and has the black and blue wording still. The 'contents' title is in black and blue and has the same font as on the title of my magazine. The contents page has three pictures, one of me and Aaron reading, a picture from the prom and a picture of Aaron and Amber. There are 9 articles and they are spread out and two of them are in blue.



This is my final magazine front cover. It shows a picture i took myself of Aaron in his school uniform. It is a medium close up. It has 4 article titles scattered around the picture i blue writing from 'dafont.com.' The title of my magazine is 'Rumours' and this is also blue and in a font from 'dafont.com.' There is also black font which at the top of the magazine. One says 'Biddulph High School Magazine', 'Free' and the date.

Second Mock Up Of Contents Page

This is my second mock up of a magazine contents page. This contents page relates to the magazine front cover. It has the black and blue wording and the page numbers are bolder and in blue. The font is the same as the font on the front cover.

Second Magazine Mock Up Front Cover

This is my second front cover which is different to the first one i did. The main difference is that the background is white instead of yellow. I have kept the black and blue wording and the title font that says 'Rumours' is slightly different to the font i have used before. This is in blue. Again, i have not used any pictures yet as i need to find my own.

This is my first contents page that matches my first front cover. It has a yellow background and black writing. The title 'Contents' is in the same font as the magazine title, and the font was off the 'da font' website. This page shows the titles of each page and the page numbers beside them. There is going to be two pictures on this page, but they are just boxes at the moment and i will take some pictures next week.

This is my first magazine idea front page. As you can see there isn't any pictures on it yet, as i need to take some of my own soon. I have a yellow background, blue and black in the 'Lucida Console' font. I have added four articles, 'Year 11's celebrate the end of year with prom!', 'Upcoming exams, how are the students feeling?', 'GCSE results, how did they do?' and 'Sports events!' The title 'Rumours' from the 'da font' website, is now blue and black to match my colour scheme.

Colour Scheme Ideas

These are the colour schemes that i may consider using. My favourites are the first and the fourth one. I'll decide what colours to use closer to the end of the project.

Font Ideas

These are some font ideas from the website 'dafont.com.' These fonts could all work well with my magazine and could be used for the title or other wording on it. My three favourites at the minute are the first, second and third fonts. I will choose my favourite closer to the end of the project.

Also, i need to think about what fonts i am going to use for the other wording. I have chosen 5 fonts that i like the look of.

The genre of my school magazine is going to be the school/college magazine so this means that the magazine will be based on this and everything to do with it.

The target audience of my magazine is teenagers over the age of 15 and students that go to Biddulph High School. The magazine, may also be helpful to the students parents.
